Actions for Community Employment (ACE)

The Actions for Community Employment (ACE ) project was set up on 31 January 2005 by Barts and the London NHS Trust to recruit local people into jobs at the Trust. An overriding aim is to make the workforce more representative of the community it serves. The two main partners are Jobcentre Plus and Employment Solutions - which is part of Skillsmatch, a Tower Hamlets local authority employment agency. The ACE service is subsidised as part of the regeneration programme for the local area.

The brokerage markets ring-fenced entry level health and social care vacancies to the local community.

Many of the people who have gained employment at Barts and the London NHS Trust are local people and are from BAME groups – in 2004-2005 ACE hit its workforce diversity target of employing more people (30%) from the local Bangladeshi community as set out by the Project Board and partners. In 2004-2005, it employed 144 people.

ACE is based at Employment Solutions premises in Canary Wharf. It employs five members of staff and has use of Employment Solutions Client Contact Team.
