What we do - key aims
The brokerages work with NHS Trusts to place local people into health and social care jobs. Their aim is to:
- Reduce unemployment many of the people employed into jobs are unemployed, with many on benefits.
- Reduce recruitment expenditure for the NHS Trusts.
- Aid retention - local people recruited into local jobs are far more likely to stay with their employer than those having to travel significant distances.
- Build expertise linking with partners, ie Jobcentre Plus, Groundwork and Employment Solutions allows NHS Trusts to tap into their expertise at handling vacancies and placing people into the right jobs.
- Provide links to the local community the brokerages are deliberately located on-site at, or close to, hospitals or health centres to increase access and to encourage members of the public to use their work placement and job-matching services.
- Create knowledge the health and social care brokerages only recruit into health and social care jobs, whereas a jobcentre deals with a range of employers and recruits across several industries. Narrowing the focus builds up a real sense of what the health sector is about and allows for more targeted recruitment.
- Promote regeneration many people are moving from welfare to work and their employment impacts positively on their community.
